V-Day or D-Day? It's Pretty Much The Same.

In spirit of the nationally mushy gushy, awfully dreaded by society shunned singles, holiday, I shall blog, on Friday The 13th, about the too pink St. Valentine's Day.

Pink is everywhere. Cupid & his arrows, delicate lace hearts, pink foiled chocolates, and I Love You cards have staked their claim in stores & shops all over town since mid January. I recently received a flyer, pink of course, with the rather intriguing story of how St. Valentine's Day came about:

Valentine's Day has vastly evolved over the years. From once being a morbid celebration, to feast honoring a deceased Saint's relics, it now represents a day of picture perfect love.

Historically February marked the beginning of spring and was a time for purification. This called for celebrations and festivals. During the festivities all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city's bachelors would then each choose a name out of the urn and become paired for the year with his chosen women. These matches often ended in marriage. While this traditions died off, the romantic feel of the day never vanished.

I've never really been a fan of Valentine's Day. Even in all the years before this. K & I have always celebrated because well....it WAS Valentine's Day. But he & I shared the same thought when it came to overly dramatic displays of affection. I think that's what made me love him even more. & as I've mentioned before, too much of the color pink makes me want to punch things.

So what are my plans for this day you may wonder? I am doing the V-Day usual. Dinner and a movie with TWO Valentines. :) Two of my wonderful best friends & I are having dinner at a quaint little Italian restaurant in Highland Village, then more than likely getting a little bit inebriated then it's on to watch our life stories fold out before us in the epic movie.... Confessions of a Shopaholic.

& as for my plans for Friday The 13th? There are none. I've barricaded my doors & windows. (well...pretty much) I've stocked my house filled with enough junk food to last about 70 sleep-overs, enough movies to run out the bulb in my movie projector, and my Mum has wonderfully washed my softest PJs & my favorite socks (the one with about 20 bells on it)! People think I'm silly to be so superstitious, but Friday the 13th + Nic = no good! Nothing good can come of today! The many horrible previous Friday the 13ths are proof!

Have a wonderful & cautious day all! Until next time.....
